{"id":241,"date":"2011-10-22T09:22:34","date_gmt":"2011-10-22T09:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tezzatron.com\/loadsofrecipes\/2011\/10\/22\/cumberland-sausages-with-rich-guinness-gravy\/"},"modified":"2011-10-22T09:22:34","modified_gmt":"2011-10-22T09:22:34","slug":"cumberland-sausages-with-rich-guinness-gravy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loadsofrecipes.co.uk\/british-recipes\/cumberland-sausages-with-rich-guinness-gravy\/","title":{"rendered":"Cumberland sausages with rich Guinness gravy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"style15\">700g Cumberland sausages<\/li>\n<li> 250ml Guinness<\/li>\n<li> 1 tbsp olive oil<\/li>\n<li> 20g butter<\/li>\n<li> 2 large onions, finely sliced<\/li>\n<li> 1 level dessertspoon sugar<\/li>\n<li> 284ml beef stock<\/li>\n<li> 1 level dessertspoon plain flour<\/li>\n<li> 1 tbsp white wine vinegar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heat oil in a large frying pan, add butter, allow to melt then add onions. Cook on low heat for 25-30 minutes stirring occasionally. Sprinkle in the sugar, mix well and cook for about 5 mins until brown and caramelised.<\/p>\n<p> Meanwhile, bring the stock to the boil and boil rapidly until reduced by half. Stir the flour into the onions and cook for 1 minute. Then add the stock and the Guinness. Bubble for a minute or two, then turn right down and leave to simmer.<\/p>\n<p> Meanwhile, grill the sausages until browned on both sides.&nbsp; Check seasoning on gravy, add vinegar and a little water if it is too thick.
